We all ordered omelettes for dinner at the IHOP in the Rio Hill Shopping Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. We were getting ready to leave. Suddenly there was a summer thunderstorm that went on and on and delayed us leaving. My AT&T phone went off with a loud beeping alert about a flash flood wash for the area. Other people's phones went off in the restaurant, too. It was hard to find things to order on the menu to occupy ourselves until we could leave. The restaurant was more memorable for the thunderstorm than the food.
Back In The South At Cracker Barrel: July 28
We packed up the car in Lexington. We checked out of room 114 at 10:51AM. This time we got on 81 going north instead of south. The first pit stop was at exit 200 at McDonalds. The second pit stop was at exit 213A at Pilot Arby’s. I took a photo of a T-Shirt that said, “Keep calm and carry a gun.” The third pit stop was at exit 94 Cracker Barrel Waynesboro at 12:11PM for lunch. We ordered roast beef sandwiches and a chicken BLT sandwich. The waitress was very polite the way they are in the South. Everything was piping hot and cooked just right and with a smile, too.
We left at 1:26PM and drove over Afton Gap with 25 miles left to go to Charlottesville. We stopped at the rest area right after Afton that had a colonial design. We drove up 29N for the first time since 1998. Too bad I couldn’t find another IHOP in Charlottesville. As we drove around looking for a place to eat, I had fond memories of my lunch in Waynesboro.
A Fight With The Ziosk Machine: May 31
We went to Chili’s for dinner in Harrisburg in May. I fought with the Ziosk machine for my printed receipt after paying on the device attached to my table. Never again! I will always ask for a printed receipt in the future. I haven’t seen these crazy devices anywhere except at Chili’s. The restuarant chain ought to abolish them.
Not Open On Sunday: Chick Filet In Lebanon, Tennessee May 18
I've never heard of a fast food restaurant that wasn't open on Sundays. But this is it. It's home is in the Bible Belt, and everyone who works there is super polite and proper. Everything is very neat and clean. But boy is it expensive for fast food! They do serve things, though, that you wouldn't expect such as chicken soup to go with the big expensive chicken sandwiches. Bon appetit!
