When Dora sailed from New York to England in September of 1934, hurrying abroad to marry Colonel Sir Edward Ware and become Lady Ware, she didn’t encounter long waits at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal sitting in the boarding area unable to board and eat lunch even though it was past 1:00PM in the afternoon. Nor did she encounter Cunard employees holding up numbers to indicate it was her turn to board. I’m sure she didn’t have to walk through a long, glass-sided, three part boarding ramp up to the ship that was hot even on a 70 degree day after walking up three flights of steps. You’d think that Cunard and the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal could think of a better way to board the flagship of the Cunard Line in the year where they are celebrating their 175th anniversary. Cunard may be an historic line, but it’s definitely losing any aura of being luxurious.
