Denny’s Never Disappoints:
The Denny's next to the La Quinta in Texarkana, Arkansas was getting its parking lot reconstructed. So we tried something different and ventured over to the IHOP. We ordered potato soup followed by breakfast for dinner as you can see from the photos. We even had takeout for the pets. It was hearty down home southern fare that made you want to lick your fingers. We certainly wanted seconds. But that is Denny's for you. It never disappoints.
It Was Better When It Was On The Other Side Of 29North:
This is really just Western Sizzlin so I don't know why they call themselves the Wood Grill Buffet. But I remember the Western Sizzlin that used to be on the other side of 29N in the 1990's, the last time I was in Charlottesville. It was a smaller, friendlier, more customer-oriented place. This place tries to dazzle you with food spread out before you on all sorts of counters. But before they actually served better steak with all the fixins such as baked potatoes, toasted bread, and vegetables, and you could do takeout, too, without any problem. I don't think you need the cafeteria effect with more food than you could eat on every side of you. I think they should concentrate on good steak served right.
Always mobbed
For some reason La Quinta Harrisburg is always mobbed at least during the summer. We came this way three years ago and could get reservations only because we made them well in advance. On the return trip we just showed up, and they didn't have room. This year we made reservations well in advance again. But on the return trip, the same thing happened. There was no room. It seems to be a business hotel, and that could explain it. It doesn't cater to tourists, which we are. There are a number of restaurants nearby including McDonalds and Friendly's. Take your pick. The front desk has a room set aside for frozen food and snacks that you can prepare yourself in your room.
