Bear update: The Bear says We Must Make A Pilgrimage To The Thing Party. TR says, “The Thing is the Ultimate Authority for fighting Pirates. He was set up by General Bearus in the Year O.” Moose say, “You’re a real zero, Bear!” Lou says we will have a I Wish We Had Zero Pirates Party. We will serve Zero Foods.
We woke up to sun. Will it last? It lasted, and the temperature in Deming climbed to 90. It wasn’t as warm.
Tucson 102/72 Brooklyn 86/64 RAIN
We woke up at 7:30AM. We got dressed and took the pets for a walk. We went to breakfast at the Lazy Lizard. We ordered the buffet. We checked out of room 109. The 1st pit stop was at exit 62, the Butterfield Stage Bowlins. We got gas and bought a Route 66 bag along with postcards and a tomahawk. I took lots of photos of yuccas along the side of the road as we approached the Continental Divide. These are the yucca plains. We finally saw a sign for the Continental Divide at 4585 feet. The sign was after the place on the map. I don’t understand the discrepancy. The second pit stop was at Bowlins at exit 42. This was the Bowlins Continental Divide. I bought a second Bear Bag, a greeting card, a black bear, and Indian feathers. I spend almost all my time in the car now either fielding phone calls or taking videos and snapshots. I haven’t opened the computer once since starting on I-10 west from Las Cruces to Tucson. We continued on to Lordsburg, seeing signs for THE THING. They say it’s only one hour away now. I know Arizona is only 20 miles away. We ate lunch at Kranberry’s and checked into room 103 at the Econo Lodge. It was the same room we stayed at on June 15. We spent the afternoon working on the computer. Gary called clients. Kenny sent out queries. I kept records and took movies of the cat. We took the dog and cat out for a walk before we left for dinner. We went to Kranberry’s. We got there before anyone else. Then others started drifting in. I ordered roast beef. So did Gary. Kenny got a Texas brisket sandwich. The dog got take out chicken strips with rice. For dessert we went to McDonalds down the road and bought dipped cones. We fed the dog and took the pets out. More people are starting to show up at the motel. It’s early. Usually they don’t show up at these roadside stops until it begins to get dark. We did postcards. We downloaded film.
Charred Steaks for $95.00 at the Lazy Lizard? You’ve got to be kiddin’ me. 8/28/12
Last night we went to dinner at the Lazy Lizard at the Holiday Inn in Deming. We ordered steak as we had many nights on the road when there wasn’t much else on the menu. After all, what can they do to a steak? We were shocked when we got the bill for $95.73. They had to be kidding for charred, burnt pieces of shriveled up meat accompanied by baked potatoes with black spots that should have been thrown away. Go to the McDonalds instead. Skip this restaurant!
Postcard:
We drove from Deming to Lordsburg through the high yucca plains. We crossed the Continental Divide at 4585 feet and stopped at two more Bowlins Western Trading Posts. We still await “the Thing” at exit 322 in Arizona. 127 miles to Tucson!
Dog/Catt Report:
The dog liked going to Kranberry’s. He availed himself of the grass right in front of the mining exhibit.
The cat kept coming up on my desk at the Econo Lodge and bugging me. He wanted to go out.
Friday, September 16 was the day I ordered the computer in Albuquerque. Monday, September 19 was the day I received it in Santa Fe. We have an appointment on September 1 to get it fixed for the last time before selling it.
Not only did my camera break yesterday, the Eye Fi Card I was using today also broke. I actually lost photos for the first time on a vacation! The card was going slow last night. That was a warning sign Kenny says. Only the photos of the sunset that he downloaded last night survived. This morning’s breakfast photo and photos before the first stop at the Butterfield Stage didn’t make it. Some of the car footage is duplicated on video, but not the photos of the dog before we checked out of the Holiday Inn room.
Still no contract . . .
