The restaurant on the ground floor of Ibis Styles Osnabrück in Germany was a welcome change from the dark, cellar-like restaurant that we ate at the day before in Oldenburg at the Best Western Heide Hotel. It was bright and open and faced a garden where there was outdoor seating in good weather. The spaghetti bolgnese was our choice of an entree both times we stayed there. It was refreshingly different from American spaghetti. Here you were served a dish that looked like a salad on top of noodles. You had to mix it up including the grated cheese and the parsley and other greens to achieve a delectable combination worthy of your tastebuds. The service was even better than the food, and the waiter’s English was better than passable. Breakfast the next morning which was included in the stay was one of the best we tasted in Germany this summer and more than made up for the sardine can size rooms on the second floor and perhaps even made up for the suicide shower that was so small you could hardly get in and out and the shower head that went wild and sprayed out of the shower stall, inundating the bathroom floor with water.
