I waited weeks for Harrods Behind The Scenes to arrive in my mailbox all the way from England by Royal Mail. I eagerly opened the package and leafed through the book to find historical information about Harrods and what it looked like in 1915. I was disappointed to find that the book was only a photographic record of the store in the 1990's. If you look very hard you can find a few historical details such as how Harrods green and gold shopping bags were first dispensed in the 1930's. But there were no photos or sketches of Harrods in 1915 during the First World War. I wanted information about the Georgian Restaurant in particular. I will have to look elsewhere.
Note: I wanted to use this book for the Harrods Department Store scene in 1915 in my Edward Ware thriller novel, The Key to Lawrence.
