It's easy to see how Blasphemy by Douglas Preston is trying to echo the classic film Metropolis using his own female super machine called Isabel who controls the world.[[ASIN:B0040QYROA The Complete Metropolis]] But if it echoes that Fritz Lang film classic, it's devoid of the literary imagery, the atmosphere, and the reminders of Nazi Germany. Instead it sounds more like Star Trek with references to engines being at full throttle. I expect to hear one of the characters talk about beaming up and down. Still the reader can't help but envy the author's ability to create cotton candy in thriller after thriller just like the one I previously reviewed, Codex.[[ASIN:076534629X The Codex]] He feeds it to a circus of readers. I can see him standing there in the arena throwing chapters to a cheering crowd. Good show.
