The Best Western Hotel Heide was one of the spookiest stays of the trip to Germany. There was no air-conditioning and particularly on the second visit we had to leave the big windows wide open. To make it worse there were no screens. Being Americans it left us feeling exposed. You know, what if somebody climbed in the window at night? The building next door was not all that far away. Despite the fact that we noticed it was a tax office during the day, when it was dark I kept on seeing a lady in the window across from us looking in at us. At one point the light in the next building went on at 3AM, waking me up.. The situation led to sleepless nights staring at the window. I couldn’t wait for dawn and the breakfast room to open so I could escape from room 107.
