My parents had the strange experience of being in downtown Pittsburgh at one of the department stores on September 11, 2001. They were getting ready to leave and they were told that a plane was headed for Pittsburgh. Nobody knew what it was aiming for. The Twin Towers had already collapsed. They wondered if the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt was next or the US Steel Building. Traffic was at a crawl getting across the bridge and through the tunnel when they learned on the radio that the plane had crashed outside Somerset on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. On our way East this summer we passed the site of it. They still have a sign about it at the Somerset Plaza on the Turnpike.
